Preschool

B. Started his 3 year old preschool year on September 6th,  He likes it but he does not like it when I leave.  Well I think he may be playing me a little because his teachers say he is fine the minute I leave.   He just loves to hang on and not let me go.  Okay so he may be a titch spoiled.  His teachers say he is a great helper especially at clean up time.

Preschool weeks 8 and 9

C is 42 months old
We have combined the last two week into one post. Last week we all had yucky colds so we did not get a lot accomplished but this week we have felt much better and we actually managed to get a few lessons completed. We have been working on the letter P for pumpkin. We have also worked on the Bible Story of Adam and Eve. On thing that we are going to do this weekend is Read the Pumpkin Patch Parable and talk about how the farmer got all of the yucky stuff out of the pumpkin and then put a light in it to shine and how God dose this to us when when trust Him. When we have faith in Him he will take out all of our yucky stuff and then we can be a light that shines for Him. We are going to make a pumpkin to go along with the story so I will try to post pictures of this on Sunday.



A friend gave the boys pails that they could decorate for their treats on Halloween. They had a lot of fun picking out the stickers and making the faces on the buckets. They were so cute that I used them later in the week for table decorations for a party we had.




We worked on building fine motor skills by tearing paper to decorate a pumpkin then we took some black paper and turned it into a jack-o-lantern. This was very good for C's fine motor skills plus it makes a cute Halloween decoration.


Then C fingerpainted a pumpkin. He loved this activity a lot!!



Then we talked about the letter Pp and the sound it makes. C then brainstormed some p words and then glued popcorn to a p on a pumpkin. He also enjoyed eating the popcorn!!




We spent some time playing with Mr. Potato Head. C got really creative with all of the heads that he made. They were so neat!!




We made Halloween cookies. A lot of them were pumpkin shape and C decorated them to look like Jack-O-Lanterns. They were yummy too!!




C punched holes and laced a pumpkin and then cut his own shapes out to decorate it!!



C cut out his won pumpkin shape and then cut eyes, a nose, and a mouth. Then he put yellow tissue paper behind it and when we put it in the window it looks just like it is lit up.

Preschool Week 2

C is 41 months old

This week our theme was beach/fish. We worked on the color green and the numbers 3 and 4. Our Bible story is still on Creation and we learned that everything God made is beautiful and good. C worked on days 4 and 5 in his Creation book. Both boys were sick at the beginning of the week so we did not get as much accomplished as I had hoped but we still had a great week!

Our bible Study this week is still on creation. C spent time working on pages 4 and 5. For page 4 we cut out a moon "cresent shape" that is what C told me. He glued it on then added star stickers and then cut out a circle for the moon and tore rays out of orange paper. For page 5 he colored an ocean at the bottom and then took cookie cutters and paint to put sea creatures in the ocean. He chose an octopus and a seahorse. For the things in the sky he chose and owl and a bird.



GREEN

This week we were reviewing the color green so we made green Jell-O jigglers. Our theme this week was beach/fish so we made green fish jigglers. C also had to make green dinosaur jigglers too!!


C also finger painted with Green fingerpaint. He made a " rainbow, tree and flowers"

We read the Rainbow fish this week and C made a fish out of a coffee filter. He colored it with washable markers then sprayed water on it so the colors would bleed together. After it was dry I cut out a fish shape and he decorated it with a wiggle eye and then he cut pieces of tin foil to make "scales". It turned out very cute!!


Our letter this week was F. C stamped fish on Ff and he also glued feathers on Ff.He traced the letter Ff sheet that we got from starfall.com.

Working with numbers


C worked on painting his nubmers 3 and 4 for his number and then he added the correct number of stickers to match the numbers.
We read these two books from Scholastic about the numbers 3 and 4.


C made an octopus using cheerios. He counted out and glued the correct number of cheerios onto the octopus legs to match the number that was on the leg.


C had fun this week drawing and writing on his aqua doodle mat. After he played and explored for awhile I got him to practice making shapes and writing the letters in his name.

Since the boys were a little sick this week we did not get everything done that I had hoped to do but that's ok--I figure there is always next week.

Preschool week 1

C is 41 months old

This is our first official week of preschool. We worked on the letter W with the theme watermelon. We also began our Bible Time by using the story of Creation. C is working on making a book about Creation and we read several different stories from Toddler and preschool Bibles about Creation. We had a great and busy week.


This week our letter of the week was W. I cut out the letter W twice one green and one red (this one was a tiny bit smaller than the green one) C then glued them together and then dipped the round end of a crayon in black paint to stamp on seeds. (I was out of Q-tips) So now our W looks like a watermelon. This idea came from here.

C also made a watermelon and then took a crayon to stamp the outline of the letter Ww on it.

He also used paint dotter to paint/trace the letter Ww.

Another Ww activity that we did was look for Ww in the newspaper and catalogs. He would find them cut them out and glue them to a paper where he had traced Ww with a marker.

He also did a sheet where we talked about words that started with W and then he traced both capital and lower case Ww.


Another W/science activity we did was making worms. I used the left over from a kit from Steve Spangler Science. C mixed the worm goo and some little crystals to make these worms. He chose to make his worms green so we added some green food coloring.

We worked a lot on fine motor skills this week. C is trying to decide which hand he is going to use. One minute he will draw and color with his right hand and the next minute I will see him using the left hand. I am just trying to not persuade him and let him decide which works best for him.


We did this worksheet from here on just making straight lines down. He did a pretty good job with this.


Another fine motor thing we did was work on his name. I wrote his name with white chalk on black paper and then gave it to him with a towel folded under it. I then gave him a push pin and let him trace his name by pushing the pin on the lines that I drew to form his name. He loved this!! We hung it in his room so now when the sun shines in he can see his name shining through the paper. We may do more activities like this one using shapes.


C also practice writing the number 1-4 in a salt tray and he practied making shape too.
Creation Bible Study
C worked on his Creation book this week. He did days one, two, and three. This idea came from here.

For day one he painted the sky dark and then put yellow under it to make light. For day 2 he painted a blue sky and put cotton on it for clouds and painted a blue ocean. For day three he used the scrap box to create grand, grass, flowers and tree. (This was great for helping to develop his fine motor skills.) He learned a lot this week about how God created the world. He also leard his Bible verse- In the beginning God created the Heavens and Earth-Genesis 1:1.

C is working on making a number book. He paints the numbers and then adds the correct number of stickers to the pages. This week we worked on numbers 1 and 2.

C helped make oatmeal chocolat chip cookies. We used both brown and white chips. This turned out to be a great math lesson. First he had a pile of brown chips and a pile of white chips and asked me which pile had more. I told him to count them then we took them and matched them up. One brown one white. He discovered that he had more white when he ran out of brown and still had 3 whites left. Then he took the chips and started making patterns with them. He created ab patterns and aab patterns. A great math lesson!!

C sorted watermelons from Childcareland.com first by color then by shape. He recorded the number of each shape on a graph. Then I had him tell me about his graph.
