Preschool Weeks 22 and 23

For lots of great preschool ideas go here to TOT-School

We had some real snow so we built a snowman and went sledding and C went on the sled all by himself for the first time. He LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it!!!

C worked on pattern block cards from Melissa and Doug and then he made a snowman and a dog on his own.

We celebrated Groundhog day by talking about shadows and then making shadows with a flashlight. Then we read several books about groundhogs and made predictions about whether or not the groundhog would see his shadow. Our local groundhog did not see his shadow but we hear that Phil up north did see his shadow. So we are waiting so see when winter will actually end. We made these yummy groundhog cupcakes!

We played Candy Land a lot!!!! His new favorite game!

C worked on writing his numbers with these snowman cards from Confessions of a homeschooler. These cards are great. I just printed them off and put contact paper on them and we use a dry erase marker on them. He has asked to do them several times over the last couple of weeks.

We made edible snowball cookies. C loves helping in the kitchen and he had a blst making and eating these cookies. Go here for the recipe.

We worked on the sight word to and he traced it using rainbow writing and then he dictated a sentence to me and I wrote it at the bottom leaving blanks for the words he knew. He then wrote in the words go and to.

He spent a great deal of time playing with his Cars computer. It has a lot of different literacy and math games on it.

C spent a lot of time playing with playdough. He loves to make letter with it now. I called out a word to him and he makes the beginning sound out of the playdough.

We played this game a lot these past two weeks. He loves it. You have to fish the letter out of the pond to spell the words. It is a great literacy game and it helps to develop fine motor skills.

C played a rhyming matching game. He had to match a picture with a rhyming picture card from the stack. He did sooooo good with this. He really shocked me with how well he knew rhyming words.
After he did such a great job with the rhyming matching game we talked about words that rhyme with snow. He used a snowflake stamp to stamp the word snow and then he dictated words to me that rhymed with snow.

C made a snowman using marshmallows. I drew the circles on for him and then he used glue to trace them and then put marshmallows on to form the snowman. He used our scrap box to decorate the snowman. He loved tracing the circles with the glue. !!!!!!!!

We had two really fun weeks but our 2nd week was cut short due to my little one having pneumonia. Hopefully we will be back on track next week.

TOT-School Weeks 21 and 22 Jan, 18-29

Tot School

B is 22 months old

We got to have some fun in some real snow too.

We made snowball no bake cookies and the both boys had so much fun making and eating them. You can go here to get the recipe.

B spent some time playing with the Lincoln Logs that he got for Christmas. He likes to play with the two little men that came with the set.

B made a snowman using marshmallows. I drew the snowman outline and then we worked together to outline it in glue. Then B took Marshmallows to put them in the glue. The we used items from our scrap box to decorate him. I love how B tore the paper to make the hat and then tore scraps to decorate it.

B spent a great deal of time one evening putting cotton balls "snowballs" into toilet paper rolls. He loved this activity and we will be getting it out again for sure.

He us dab-a-dot painters to paint the circles on the snowman. This is a magnet page from Making Learning Fun. This is great for fine motor control and one on one correspondence. He did pretty good with this after he figured out how to hold the dab-a-dot painter up in a straight position.

We worked on the letter S for snow and B glued punched snowmen onto an upper and lower case S. He just loves the snow and anything we do involving snowmen.

B really got into reading this past week. He would pull books off the shelf and sit and look at them for a long time. He also pulled out his Tag Jr several times and used it to read. He loves his Tag jr Curious George colors book.

B worked several of his puzzles. He is getting very good at working them and he is beginning to recognize the shapes. His favorite shape right now is a diamond.

We have had a couple of great weeks! We hope to do some more winter activities this week. We wil be reading some Jan Brett books like The Hat and The Mitten.

Preschool Week 21 snow/winter

We had a great busy week. We had a lot of things going on. One thing that we did not get a picture of was Play and Learn where we go to a local school for fun and literacy activities. It is a great program. Our Bible verse this week was again Wash me and I will be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:7 We did our daily devotions and worked on the Bible story about Paul going to Phillipi.

C just finished his first semester at The Little Gym. On Monday he had his big show and a lot of family members attended and he just thought he was the stuff. He LOVES The Little Gym.

C put the snowmaen cards from Confessions of a Homeschooler in order from 1-10 and then he counted out mini marshmallows to match the number on each card. He is great with 1-10. Now we will start with 10-20.

C matched snowflake cards from Confessions of a Homeschooler. He did this several times and then we played memory with the cards.

C used dab-a-dot painters to make the letter s from Making learning fun.

C is very interested in words right now so we began working on sight words this week. We worked on the word go and he did some rainbow writing of the word and then dictated a sentence to me with the word go in it. We printed the word go from Making Learning Fun! I wrote the sentence at the bottom of the page but left a blank space for the word go and he wrote it in. He then looked through several books for the word go.

We folded and cut tortillas like snowflakes and then fried them with a little oil and put pawdered sugar on them. Charlie loved them--he said, "These are so yummy!!"

C got to sing and play the handbells at church this week. His teamkids class did the music for the Wednesday night service. I was very proud of him. He did a great job on stage.

I ended up working today at our Church preschool so we did not get any of todays activities done but that is ok we will work on them next week. Our theme will again be winter and snow and we may throw in some Jan Brett books too. I hope to be a little more organized next week and get a little more done!
