Growing up!!

Well I knew it would happen and I am fighting it with every part of my being but I just can't stop it.  My boys are growing up and it is happening way to fast.  As much as I would love to freeze time right now and keep them forever as a first grader and a preschooler I know I can't.  I know they have to grow up and I am excited about seeing where God takes their little lives.  They both have so much to offer this world and I know it is all going to be so amazing.  Charlie has hit a mild stone in his little life that reaminds me of the book Franklin and the Tooth Fairy.  In the story they mention that you know you are growing up when you loose your teeth and new ones begin to come in.  Franklin, being a turtle, does not have any teeth to lose so he feels a little left out.  Well this was my Charlie- last year in Kindergarten it seemed to him that ALL of his friends were losing their teeth but him.  He mentioned it several times at the end of the year last year and many times over the summer.  Then first grade hit and still no loose teeth.  Then FINALLY in late November he came running to me screaming, "Mom, Mom my tooth is loose. Look, Look!!!"  Well sure enough after all that waiting he had a loose tooth.  It took several weeks but on December 11th that first baby tooth was lost and the Tooth Fairy was making a stop at our house.    I was so happy for Charlie but sad that, I coud before my very eyes see my baby growing up.

Lost first tooth on December 11, 2012
He lost it at school which made it all that much better because his friends got to see it and he got the cool tooth necklace from the office.

Well between that fantastic December day and February 2nd we have kept the Tooth Fairy quite busy.  Charlie has lost 4 teeth and he is so proud and so cute.  I love his toothless smile and watching him try to eat is so sweet.

2nd tooth lost early January 2013.

Third tooth lost late January 2013.

Fourth tooth lost on Groundhog day 2013,

I just can't believe that he is growing up so fast.  I hate it so much but I am taking in every second and enjoying every minute of watching him grow up.  These times are so amazing and precious.

Two Fridays in a Row

On February first I heard those wonderful words once again.  This time the call came with a two hour delay message which I was so Thankful for--this thing called school begins way too early.  Then much to my surprise about 7:00am another message came through with those wonderful words yet again---ALL Buncombe County Schools closed.   Then my wheels started turning with ideas of things to do with my boys all day.  Could not wait for another fun no school day!!!

We had yet another great stay in our pj's Friday.  We began the day reading books about the Groundhog and making our predictions.  Then we ate a little snowman breakfast.  Last Friday we had snowman pancakes but this week due to a request from a sweet toothless 7 year old we had snowmen doughnuts.  I know, I know not the most healthy breakfast but it sure was yummy.  The boys gobbled down their snowmen and fruit with a little chocolate milk and then played a little Wii while I cleaned up the kitchen and started a load of laundry.

Next was family game morning, yes I mean ALL morning.  They took turns picking out the games and I think we played for something like 21/2 hours.  We played Scrabble Jr., Mastermind, Handy Manny Uno, Candy Land, Cars Monopoly, and War.  It was so much fun that I forgot to take a lot of pictures.    Then we watched a little Disney Jr and The Tigger Movie was on and the boys loved it.

Next we ate lunch with snowmen crackers and cheese, fruit, and popcorn.  Then we got really messy making marbled valentines.  We took shaving cream, and food coloring and swirled it around with a popsicle stick and then took construction paper and laid on top of it.  After the boys peeled the paper off I scraped off the excess shaving cream and we were left with marble prints.  After the boys did all of this that they wanted to I let them just play in the shaving cream.  Brayden practiced writing his letters and some sight words that he knows and Charlie just drew pictures.  Then the boys took pre-cut hearts and used glitter glue to decorate them and then glued them on to the shaving cream marbled papers.  We will eventually turn these into Valentine's for teachers and family members.

Next was Lincoln Log Time and the boys got very creative with what they build.  We decided that we need more Lincoln Logs because they never seemed to have enough and did not get to finish their creations quite like they wanted to.

Then they took turns playing a little on the I-pad.  Then the Legos came back out.  They are out most days and the boys are really getting good and building Lego Creations.

Well I could soooo get used to these laid back Friday's with my boys.  We have had so much fun and we can't wait until the next day off.  We are still waiting on a big snow or at least one we can go out and play in and build snowmen.  Maybe soon.   But until the next day off we will cherish all of the wonderful fun times we have had just by hearing the words- Buncombe County Schools closed!!!

NO SCHOOL

Last Friday I heard the most amazing words at 5:34am---  Buncombe County Schools Closed!!  It came at a great time.  We were all tired and ready for a stay in our pj's all day kind of day and just do fun family things.  We did not have any snow just ice so we did not get to have fun playing outside but we had a day full of inside fun and memory making.  It was the BEST day!!!!

We began our day with snowman pancakes with M&M eyes and decorations.  A little candy before 8:30 am never hurt anyone--right???   Then we played a little Wii and things got a little competative during the bowling matches and basketball games.   After Wii spent a lot of time building with Legos.  Charlie finished a big Bat Man set that he had been working on and Brayden built a whole city set.  They amaze me at how well they can build with the Legos.

Then Brayden and I made some Lemon/Lime Kool-aid playdough.  Then both boys got out all of our playdough tool and we spend about an hour creating.  Brayden got a cool crain truck just for using with playdough for Christmas.  It has a lot of cool tools to use and molds to make cones, walls and rocks.   Charlie played with his Cars 2 set and molded several cars and made a track for them and then had races.

The we made and munched on yummy brownies.  Brayden is my kitchen helper and he is a pro when it comes to making brownies.

Then the boys played a little on the I-pad and the computer while I ran a load of laundry and fixed lunch.  They love PBS Kids, Starfall and disney junior.com.  Of course Brayden is Angry birds crazy.

For lunch we had snowmen sandwiches, pretzels and hot chocolate.  Oh! yeah--We had another brownie too. (don't judge) HA!!

Then we had a wonderful game of Cars 2 Monopoly.  It was so much fun but of course I came in last again.  Brayden beat Charlie by 1 dollar.

Then the boys drew snow pictures with white Crayons and then painted over them with water colors.

After we had so much fun with the snow pictures we read about 10 books about snow and snowmen. To end our day we snuggled up and watched Peter Pan.

We actually got to hear those wonderful words again this morning.  Seems like we are in a Friday pattern for school being cancelled.  We still have not had a good snow to play in-- hopefully soon.
I will up-date about our day today soon.
